MMO Titanium Anodes for Salt Chlorination and HOCl Generation Systems

1. Application Overview

MMO coated titanium anodes are widely used in salt chlorination systems and hypochlorous acid (HOCl) generation equipment for swimming pools and water treatment applications.

Salt chlorination technology is a mature and widely adopted solution for swimming pool disinfection. Instead of manually adding chlorine chemicals, these systems generate disinfectant directly through electrolysis.

The basic electrochemical reaction is:

NaCl (salt) + electrolysis → HOCl (hypochlorous acid) → water disinfection

A typical salt chlorination system mainly consists of:

  • Power supply
  • Electrolytic cell
  • MMO coated titanium electrodes

During operation, a low concentration salt solution flows through the electrolytic cell. Through electrolysis, hypochlorous acid and sodium hypochlorite are generated in situ, providing continuous disinfection for swimming pool water.

In many modern swimming pool systems, the salt chlorinator cell uses MMO coated titanium anodes to generate chlorine through electrolysis.
