Inconel 600

Inconel 600 alloy is a solid solution strengthening alloy primarily composed of nickel, chromium, and iron. It possesses exceptional resistance to high-temperature corrosion and oxidation, along with remarkable cold and hot working capabilities, and weldability. Its thermal strength is satisfactory with high ductility below 700°C, and it can be further strengthened through cold working. Inconel 600’s unique combination of high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and versatile mechanical properties makes it indispensable across various industries encountering demanding conditions.

Applications of Inconel 600 alloy include:

  1. Thermocouple Protection Tubes in Corrosive Atmospheres: Inconel 600 is commonly used for manufacturing protection tubes for thermocouples in environments requiring corrosion resistance. These tubes safeguard the temperature-sensing elements from corrosive gases, liquids, or solids, ensuring accurate temperature measurement and extended sensor lifespan.
  2. Production of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM): In the chemical industry, Inconel 600 is utilized in equipment for producing vinyl chloride monomer, which involves harsh conditions with exposure to chlorine gas, hydrogen chloride, and other corrosive substances. Its resistance to corrosion and oxidation makes it suitable for such applications.
  3. Conversion of Uranium Oxide to Hexafluoride: In nuclear fuel processing, Inconel 600 is employed in equipment for converting uranium oxide to uranium hexafluoride, which involves exposure to hydrogen fluoride, a highly corrosive substance. Its resistance to fluoride corrosion makes it an ideal choice for such applications.
  4. Corrosive Alkali Metals Production and Usage: Industries involved in producing and handling corrosive alkali metals, particularly those containing sulfides, use Inconel 600 due to its excellent resistance to corrosion in such environments. Examples include applications in the chemical and metallurgical industries.
  5. Production of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) using Chloride Process: Inconel 600 is used in equipment exposed to corrosive chloride environments during the production of titanium dioxide via the chloride process. This process involves the oxidation of titanium tetrachloride to produce TiO2 pigment.
  6. Production of Organic or Inorganic Chlorides and Fluorides: Inconel 600 is employed in the production of various chlorides and fluorides, where it withstands corrosion from chlorine and fluorine gases. Industries such as chemical manufacturing and petrochemical processing utilize Inconel 600 for its corrosion resistance in aggressive environments.
  7. Nuclear Reactor Components: Inconel 600 is utilized in nuclear reactor components due to its high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent mechanical properties. It finds applications in reactor vessels, piping, and other critical components subjected to demanding operating conditions.
  8. Heat Treatment Furnace Components: Inconel 600 is used in furnace components, including radiant tubes, muffle furnaces, and furnace fixtures, within the heat treatment industry. It withstands high temperatures and corrosive atmospheres encountered during heat treatment processes, ensuring the reliability and longevity of furnace components.
