Electrolytic Copper Foil Electrolyte Manufacturing Process

I. Electrolytic Copper Foil Production Process

Since the late 1930s, electrolytic copper foil has been produced and used in the electronics industry. With the development of the electronics industry, the quality of electrolytic copper foil has been continuously improved, and its manufacturing technology has been rapidly advancing. Various copper foil production companies and related research institutions have made significant progress in the research of electrolytic copper foil manufacturing technology, leading to the development of various electrolytic copper foil manufacturing techniques. The key technologies for producing electrolytic copper foil vary among different enterprises, but regardless of the extent of differences in key technologies and specific processes, the process of electrolytic copper foil manufacturing generally includes electrolyte preparation, original foil manufacturing, surface treatment, slitting processing, as well as related testing and control, and ancillary equipment processes.

II. Preparation of Electrolyte

The preparation of electrolyte is the first process in the production of electrolytic copper foil. It mainly involves dissolving copper material into sulfuric acid solution and subjecting it to a series of filtration and purification steps to prepare electrolyte with qualified composition and high purity. The quality of the electrolyte directly affects the quality of copper foil products, not only in terms of intrinsic quality but also in terms of appearance. Therefore, strict control over the raw materials and additives used in the copper dissolving process is essential, and the production equipment and operational processes for electrolyte preparation must also be strictly controlled.

In the process of preparing electrolyte, the raw materials used include electrolytic copper, bare copper wire, copper rods, and copper granules. The purity of copper content in the raw materials must be above 99.95%, and various impurities in the copper material such as Pb, Fe, Ni, As, Sb, AI, S, and organic impurities must meet the requirements of No. 1 copper in the national standard GB4667-1997 “Electrolytic Cathode Copper.” Sulfuric acid, as an essential material in the production process, must also meet national standards in terms of its quality.
